Phil became interested in Real Estate because his son, Jeff Mateja, owns the Mateja Group at Keller Williams Realty. Having a career as an athletic trainer, he utilized his skills of problem-solving and having the compassion and willingness to help others, which serves him greatly as a realtor.

Phil received his B.S.Education. from Missouri in 1974 and a Master in Education from Maine in 1977. He is a 45-year Certified Member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and volunteered as Member of Placement and Journal Committees from 1976-1993. He’s a former Member of the Orono Town Council (1994-90) and was Chairperson 1987-89 as well as a Member of the Maine Safety Council Board of Directors (1994-2002) and was President 2000-2002.
He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators in 2006 and was inducted into the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honors in 2017 for his lifetime work with students and athletes. Numerous articles have been published in the Bangor Daily News about his accomplishments as an Athletic Trainer. Phil ’s hobbies are gardening and working around the house as well as daily five-mile walks. He’s been married to his wife Judy forty-one years and has one son, and two grandsons, Parker (5) and Chase (2).
